The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 was up and running from the 5th Match when Bangladesh defeated South Africa in a high scoring encounter after a predictable and a dull start to the tournament.

Having made their debut in World cricket against Fiji at Water Orton in the ICC Trophy 1979, it has been a tale of gradual rise for Bangladeshi Cricket. The country which used to breathe football is now seeing cricket as a religion.

They went on to defeat the torch bearers of International Cricket like India, Australia , England , Pakistan in the coming years, but still were considered minnows whenever they clashed against a top team with no one giving them a chance. But the recent performances give the fans some kind of hope for the future.

The performance of the Tigers in this World Cup may not have been flawless, but the confidence which they have been showing is a proclamation by the team on why they shouldn’t be considered underdogs anymore. But, it is no secret that the very same aggression is handing them defeats.

Throwback to 2016, when India grasped a win from the clutches of defeat in the very last over against Bangladesh in the group stages of Super 10 WT20 match. Mushfiqur Rahim, who prematurely celebrated after a boundary was trolled massively by the cricketing fraternity.

Fast forward to ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Bangladesh faced New Zealand after a gritty win against the Proteas. Mushfiqur Rahim once again hogged the limelight when he squandered an opportunity to run out the New Zealand captain Kane Williamson who eventually set up the platform for a Kiwi win.

On one hand , the team is surprising the world with their determined performances and taking the fight to the opposition, but the failure to convert the performance into a result continues to haunt them. However, one thing’s for certain, Bangladesh are doing justice to the nickname they have been given , “The Tigers.”
