The activist was slammed with IPC Sections 376,417 and Section 4 of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Woman Harassment Act following a complaint lodged by a woman in Karur district.

It was confirmed that the activist had boarded the train from Chennai Egmore to Madurai and was active on social media until his disappearance.

“Since one of the CCTV cameras showed him exiting the railway station, there was a doubt whether he walked out. But a perusal of other cameras revealed that he came back to board the train. He was active on his mobile phone till around midnight, after which location is not known.”, a CB-CID official told Sources.

Fearing the safety of Mugilan, political parties and right activists had pressurised the Tamil Nadu government to transfer the case to the CB-CID as the activist had been actively involved in protests against the Kudankulam nuclear plant, illegal sand mining, hydrocarbon project and Sterlite plant in Thoothukudi.

Meanwhile, the family of Mugilan has questioned the CB-CID officials on their complacency in questioning the police officials involved in the case. Reports suggest that Mr. Mugilan had exposed the presence of the IG and DIG in the Thoothukudi Collectorate which was contrary to the theory of the police.

Kaar Muhilan, son of the activist, raised concern on why the police hasn’t been able to track down his father who was monitored round the clock even after 100 days of his disappearance.
