Deputy CM O Paneerselvam was reportedly lobbying for his son P Raveendranath Kumar, who won the lone seat for the party from Theni. Reports from The News Minute suggest that the Deputy CM is keen to secure his son a place in the Union Council of Ministers.
Sources in the BJP say that contrary to Raveendranath’s request to be made the Minister of State (MoS) in Communications, Aviation or Fertilizers ministry, the BJP has offered the post for Shipping Ministry which was earlier held by the former BJP leader Pon Radhakrishnan who lost the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.
The AIADMK insists that Narendra Modi should consider the Theni MP as it is essential for Tamil Nadu to have representation at the centre.
Speaking to The Hindu, BJP State President Tamilisai Soundararajan said the decision is to be taken by the Prime Minister. “We respect the decisions of the central leadership and have an organised structure that we value and follow diligently”, she said.
Meanwhile, EVKS Elangovan, who lost to OPS’ son by 76,693 votes in a tightly contested election, criticised the Election Commission and held faulty EVMs accountable for his loss.
